“Sweden is one of the most important trade partners of Estonia,” PM Kallas stressed at the Estonian-Swedish business seminar “The Future of Mobility and Transport”, held in Gothenburg. According to Kallas, data and digitalisation will play a key role in shaping the future of the transportation sector: the application of new technologies can help increase the safety, accessibility, security and reduce CO2 emissions of mobility and transport. “In addition to strong e-government solutions, Estonia also has a rich ecosystem of smart mobility and intelligent transport developers,” she stressed.
According to Kallas, the fact that many Swedish companies are already present in Estonia, underscores the strong foundations for further deepening business links between the two countries. The Prime Minister sees digital and green transitions as a crucial part of cooperation in the region – as Estonia’s economy has recovered from the effects of COVID-19, it is time to start thinking about the future. “Our economy is flexible, dynamic, and resilient,” she said. “The COVID crisis was a stress test for all countries and businesses. I believe that Estonia passed this test with flying colors. Our economy performed remarkably well during those difficult times, recording growth rates well in excess of the other countries in the region.”
“Foreign companies are increasingly tapping into our good business environment and Northern European business culture, using Estonia and our know-how to restructure and digitise their internal operations, products and services,” Kallas said. “With our innovative people and government, favourable legal environment, advanced digital infrastructure, and a stable economy, we have become a recognised testbed for new ideas and processes.”
On her visit to Sweden, the Prime Minister met the leaders of VOLVO Cars, Ericsson and AI Sweden, as well as the representatives of the mobility sector. Today, Kallas will meet Sweden’s Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson and hold a lunch for local business leaders.
